Protest Action in Diepsloot Brings Traffic to Standstill

Diepsloot residents barricaded roads with burning tyres and are throwing rocks at passing cars, Johannesburg metro police said on Monday morning.

According to sources, residents in the area feel neglected by the government and are therefore demanding better houses, water and electricity.

“The R511 is affected between Sandton and Centurion. That road should be avoided completely and the N14 from Krugersdorp is also being affected. More officials are being sent to the scene to direct traffic. Motorists can make use of the N1 as an alternative route this morning‚” said JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.
