National Taxi Strike Called Off

Taxi Strike 12 July

The national taxi strike planned for next week, 12 July, has been called off- pending the outcome of a meeting with the minister of Transport Mkhacani Maswanganyi scheduled to take place on Friday, 7 July.

According to reports, the South African National Taxi Council wants licenses to be made indefinite, which will allow taxi operators to obtain finance for their vehicles from banks at better rates.

“The current indefinite period permits have no value,” Santaco KZN spokesperson, Mandla Mzelemu said.

Last month, taxi operators embarked on a taxi strike that left commuters around Gauteng stranded.
