Thousands of commuters have been left stranded today due to a taxi strike organized by the South African Taxi Council (SANTACO).
Santaco spokesperson, Ralph Jones, has advised commuters to find alternative modes of transport for Thursday.
“This is to hand over a memorandum of grievances to the directors of the company. Some members of the taxi industry have been hard hit by the high interest rate of 28% and blacklisting due to payment of R15‚000 per month over 72 months.”
Speaking to the SABC, Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said that the areas that will be affected by the protest include Rosslyn, the CBD and possibly the area around the South African Reserve Bank.
Traffic authorities have urged motorists to be patient the protest makes its way through national roads in Gauteng.
