When God looks over the landscape of humanity, there is one quality that stands out above all others, and that is loyalty. God’s eyes are, as it were, on a high-speed search, and the object of God’s search, is loyalty.
2 Chronicles 16:9 says, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”
God honours many wonderful values, e.g. faith is mentioned in Hebrews 11:6. He honours faith because faith pleases Him. But when God finds loyalty in a person, God shows Himself strong on behalf of that person. I believe that in every person there is an innate desire to rise to the nobility of loyalty. I would describe loyalty as a God quality. Jesus was loyal to God, His Father, even unto death; so in Jesus we find the meaning of true loyalty.
In Jesus Christ, God empowers us with a loyal spirit so that we might be loyal to Him, and then, be loyal in all our dealings and relationships with one another. Loyalty makes one’s journey with God an intensely personal affair. It says, “God, this is all about you and me. I trust You and I will keep my eyes on you! It is a choice I understand that only I can make – nobody can really help or hinder me to be loyal. God, you are my only source of true loyalty.”
In his youth, David saw his destiny as a personal matter between him and his God. His perspective was that King Saul didn’t block his path. Only God could ultimately clear his path or block his path – the real issue was God. David resolved to show his loyalty to God by being loyal to King Saul, even though King Saul wanted to kill him. David knew that by honouring authority, God would fight for him, and bring him into the rich fulfilment of His plan for his life. It is important to know that David looked to God as the only one directing his destiny, so he was able to shake off all temptations to be disloyal.
Psalm 75:6-7 says that God is the one who promotes. Be loyal, make God your source and you will surely be promoted.
